Bradenton Bayshore High School Blamed For Rare Cancers

State lawmakers are checking into claims asserted by graduates of former Bayshore High School, Bradenton, Florida, who say they contracted a variety of rare cancers because of exposure to toxic chemicals while at the school. The high school itself was pulled down in the late 1990's.

Numerous alumni have come forth to contend that their loved ones have died from rare cancers after attending the school. Alumni have even started a website dedicated in memoriam to those BHS alums who died from leukemia or lymphoma, a frequent result of exposure to benzene, a constituent ingredient of diesel fuel and a known carcinogen.

According to original reporting about BHS on BayNews9, Carolyn Christian lost her husband Bill to a rare cancer. Bill was a teacher at Bayshore High School in the 80s.

The Bayshore High School alumni cancer web site counts 32 alumni that have died from leukemia or lymphoma-related diseases. Alumni suspect that the cancers were caused by a leaking 10,000 gallon diesel fuel drum that was at the old school grounds, as well as a variety of other toxins found to exist at Bayshore High School.
