There's a troubling story in the Sarasota Herald Tribune today about the Diocese of Venice. No, this time it's not about the sexual abuse of minors. Rather, it's about the Diocese buying aparments in Venice. Apparently, elderly residents of the complex received notice from the owner that they had to move out in 30 days. The owner explained that he was selling the building and that was the express wish of the buyer which happened to be the Diocese of Venice. When the Sarasota Herald Tribune discovered this it asked the Diocese for an explanation. What they received was puzzling at best. The Diocese refused to acknowledge it was purchasing the building in order to help single mothers. It also didn't express any concern over the plight of the elderly residents who were being pushed out of their apartments.

Spokeswoman Adela White, when pressed, repeatedly said that it is a diocese policy "not to talk about land we do not own."

I've encountered such a response when I've represented victims of priest sex abuse but this seems very strange. One would think the Diocese would have no reason to hide such information from the press. Yet, that's what they chose to do, at least initially. After the story was published in the newspaper, the Diocese gave in and issued a statement that it would work with the city in order to help the elderly residents.

I guess the church's operating mode of secrecy goes beyond the sexual abuse crisis.

Now you know, Joe. And this is just the tip of the tip of the iceberg. The arrogant, condescending, avaricious, disconnected, entitled queens who make up the US Bish Club should be keeping you in court for a long, long time. (Stop grinning!)

If any part of this story concerning the attitude of the Diocese of Venice toward what amounts to making the eviction (30 days to move) of senior citizens from their housing a pre-condition of sale is true, it is very, very troubling.

Once again it puts the spotlight on a clerical mindset and the abuse of power by the institutional church which seems not to have changed all that very much.

The is not the first time the Roman Catholic Church has, "Kicked" the elderly to the curb. In Santa Barbara, California, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles threw three elderly nuns out of their convent, which was owned by the church. The Archdiocese offered no alternative accomoditations for the Good Sisters, other than to move to their Mother House in another city. But this story has a happy ending.....The Episcopal Church In Santa Barbara gave the nuns a house in which to live. BTW the Auxilary Bishop in Santa Barbara lives in a mansion; all by his lonesome.

If Roman Catholic Priests spent more time reading God's word {The Bible}than they did viewing child poronography on the internet they wouldn't be up to their asses in alligators right now. Of course the bible declares "In the final days false teachers will abound and many will be decieved".Do you really believe the popes power to conscecrate the fingers of a priest allows the priest to call Christ from the heavenlies to "live in the tabernacle?" When the priests fingers are inserted into the vagina of a seven year old girl, or they masturbate to climax a thirteen year old boy, is this conscecration,"null and void?" What kind of God would snap to a priestly call anyhow? No God that I would ever worship. What happened to purgatory?Just another priestly larceny story I suppose. Let's keep everyone fearful and beholden to "Holy Mother church" for priestly penance and absolution. In the bible there are two sacrements. Baptism and marriage. Confession is NOT a sacrament. The bible declares: "Confess to one another." That way your Christian brother or sister can see the sin you are struggling with and hold you to account. No secrets there, huh? Believe me, the bigger problem the Roman Catholic church faces is the fact that most of their teachings just have absolutely no basis in Scripture. How many people aren't saved because of the Roman Catholic church's false teaching? Isn't lighting a candle in front of a plaster statue idol worship? If you are not a "Bible believing Christian, why not pick up the bible and read it today? The final book in the new testament, The Book of Revelation sheds a lot of light on the final days before Christ's return. Much of it sounds like what the Roman Catholic church is going through today. I believe we are in the last of the last days. The bible declares: "In the final days all of your deeds done in darkness will be shouted from the rooftops" Sound familiar?
